Becoming a Member


To those of you interested in becoming a member of Rho Rho Chapter:

Becoming a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) signifies your commitment to nursing excellence and is a tribute to your academic efforts. The mission of STTI is to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. STTI supports the learning and professional development of its members, who strive to improve patient care worldwide.

STTI is the second largest nursing organization in the world and includes 300,000 inducted members from 90 countries and territories. Members include practicing nurses, faculty, researchers, policy makers, executives, entrepreneurs, and others who make up the society’s 120, 000 active members. Members are affiliated with 423 chapters on 520 colleges and university campuses in the US, countries and territories including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Pakistan, South Korea and Taiwan. Sixty percent of the membership hold at least a Master’s degree. Membership is conferred upon undergraduate and graduate nursing students who have met or exceeded rigorous academic standards and upon university-educated professionals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in nursing.

The third annual Rho Rho fall yard sale was held in September on the grounds of the School of Nursing and raised $500.00. We welcome your contributions to the yard sale, so please remember us when you are sorting and removing unnecessary items from your home! Household items, books, and sports equipment are eagerly bought by students! No clothing please. Drop-offs are welcomed in the Skills lab/Learning Resource Centre during August –September.

In December we sold tickets on a gorgeous Christmas basket which raised $330.00.One of our main goals over the past three years has been to establish a Rho Rho Scholarship with funds raised from these events. Since November 2003 our scholarship guidelines have been available and posted on the Rho Rho website. We're pleased to announce that our second scholarship of $500.00 has been awarded to a successful candidate. She will be recognized at the Induction Ceremony.

FEBRUARY 2, 2005 an education session held on Organ Donation Transplantation. It was informative prompted questions and much discussion among attendees.

The Executive is currently planning and organizing itsFourth Induction Ceremony to be held on April 27, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in the Victoria Lounge of the Sheriff Hall. The Induction ceremony will include Wine and Cheese and a Silent Auction. Letters of invitation will soon be sent to both undergraduate, graduate students and Nurse Leaders.

The eligibility criteria for Undergraduate Students are as follows:

a) Have completed ½ of the nursing curriculum;

Have at least a GPA of 3.0

Rank in the upper 35 percentile of graduating class (based on a 4.0 grading scale).

The eligibility criteria for graduate students is as follows:

Have completed 1/4 of the nursing curriculum

Have at least a GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4.0 grading scale).

Undergraduate and graduate students who meet the above mentioned criteria will be identified by the Eligibility Committee and will be sent letters inviting them to join Rho Rho chapter.

The eligibility criteria for the Nursing Professionals/ Community Leaders category is as follows:

a) Be a registered nurse;
b) Hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field;
and
c) Have demonstrated achievement in nursing, education, practice, research, administration or publication.

Your membership includes the wine and cheese reception.  Further you will have access to resources that will help you learn more about the nursing profession as well as the various career opportunities that await you.
