My program of research and scholarly activity focuses on the individual and family experience of care-giving within oncology, particularly how the nurse-patient-family relationship, type of cancer and resilience may impact the psychological well-being of individuals and families. My current family study explores the potential for family caregivers to develop post traumatic stress/secondary traumatic stress as a result of caring for their spouse/partner with a hematological cancer. I am also interested in how beliefs, values and attitudes cancer patients and families hold inform their interpretation of the cancer experience, decision-making and coping strategies. Additional research centers on work life and work environment issues for nurses. Research methodologies include phenomenology, grounded theory and mixed methods.
