WHO Collaborating on Health Workforce Planning and Research (http://whocentre.dal.ca)
In 2008, we were successful in obtaining the designation as a WHO Collaborating Centre. As Director, I oversee the operation of the Centre, including all related research projects and other associated work. Associated research includes the international research on needs-based health human resources planning currently being conducted in Brazil, Jamaica and Zambia with future projects planned in other pan-American countries and Africa. The Centre involves significant partnerships to build capacity to create and use evidence to inform the critical issues in the planning for human resources for health (HRH). Partners include the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF), the Nova Scotia Department of Health, and Health Canada (Health Human Resources Strategies Division and the Office of Nursing Policy).
